Craftation: Round Seven

This time I made a wall monogram! I did not take picture while I was making it, so you just going to have to bear with me here.

What you need:

  • An unfinished, wooden plaque
  • An unfinished, wooden letter
  • A piece of cardstock
  • Sawtooth Hanger
  • Paint
  • ModPodge
  • Tacky glue
  • Skinny nails that are long enough to go through your plaque and somewhat into your letter
  • Printer paper
First, there was no way to hang the finished product on the wall. I had to nail a "Sawtooth Hanger" to the back of it.

I painted the outside edge of the plaque and around the edge of the face (flat part) of it a contrasting color that would match my piece of cardstock.
This step is optional. I used a shiny piece of cardstock and to make my yellow edges fit better with the paper, I painted a top coat of Liquitex brand "Iridescent Medium." It just gives a pretty pearly shine!

Take a piece of printer paper and trace the face of your plaque and cut it out. Now, trace the shape of your letter onto the template of your plaque's face (you will need this for later).

Now, cut the cardstock in the shape of the face of your plaque. After that, I mixed up, with a wet brush, equal parts of ModPodge an tacky glue. I did this because the ModPodge is not heavy-duty enough and the tacky glue was too thick.  I just painted the glue onto the plaque and gently pressed on my cardstock.

Time to paint the letter or letters depending on how big they are and the size of your plaque. I painted the edges white and the face yellow.

I applied just tacky glue to the back of the letter and let it dry.

Take out your template of your plaque and letter from earlier and lay it on the back of your plaque. Take a ballpoint pen and trace your letter. This will leave an impression on the wood with out any markings.

Flip over your creation and inside your impression of your letter hammer in some nails for extra security!

Ta-daaaa! You now have a wall monogram!
Let's craft together sometime,
Gin Jager
